Northern Netherlands' New Energy Coalition takes lead in European hydrogen research project

With a 10 million euro EU-grant, the Hy2Market project is set to kick-off. The Hy2Market project is a comprehensive European research programme to strengthen and underpin Europe's hydrogen economy, led by New Energy Coalition. The 3-year project has a total budget of EUR 14 million euro and will start off in February 2023.

The Hy2Market project connects regions across Europe in working on various innovations to boost production, transport and use of green hydrogen. The project builds on the knowledge of European frontrunner regions such as Upper Austria and Rhône-Alpes, the Northern Netherlands as first European Hydrogen Valley and the HEAVENN project. 

Already in January 2021 the European Commission  announced that all regions of the European Hydrogen Valleys Partnership, with the Northern Netherlands as one of its leading regions, were selected for a new interregional collaboration assistance. As result of this (financial) assistance the European Hydrogen Valleys Partnership could prepare the ground with likeminded regions, ready to apply as Hy2Market for this European grant, granted by DG REGIO.

In Hy2Market, 38 partners from 10 EU-regions will collaborate. In these regions, market parties and (knowledge) institutions work together on innovations, studies and investments to achieve a robust and innovative hydrogen value chain.

Realization of future-proof hydrogen value chain in Europe

The Hy2Market initiative aims to identify and overcome barriers in production, transport, implementation in industry and mobility. The initiative works towards broad integration with standards, legislation and common practices so that hydrogen can play its important role in reaching Fitfor55 and 2050 decarbonization goals. For this a European approach is a must. In Hy2Market the partners will invest heavily in the transfer of their expertise and the knowledge build up during the project.

The partners collaborating in Hy2Market are regional parties from Belgium, Italy, Greece, France, the Netherlands, Austria, Portugal, Spain and Romania.
