CPMR North Sea Commission statement supports TEN-T inclusion Lelyline

Negotiations on the revision of the European Transport Network (TEN-T) will continue on Monday 18 December. It is highly likely that a provisional agreement will be reached there. This means that a decision will be made as to which connections will be added to this European network.

The Northern Netherlands has recently focused on adding the Lelyline to the network. This proposal is supported by both the Member States (Council) and the European Parliament. Inclusion in the network would be an important step towards realization of the line: a definitive European commitment is expressed to build the line and there is also a chance of European financing for its construction.

The question, however, is to which category of the network the Lelyline will be added: the 'Comprehensive' network (with a deadline of 2050) or the 'Extended Core' network (deadline of 2040).

Statement CPMR North Sea Commission

To reinforce the Northern Netherlands ambition, the CPMR North Sea Commission today adopted a statement to add the Lely line to the Extended Core network.

The Lely Line is seen by regions around the North Sea as an important link in the development of a connected North Sea region - 'an important transport hub, crucial for competitiveness and sustainable growth in Europe'.
The North Sea region, together with the Northern Netherlands, therefore expresses the hope that the Council and the European Parliament will vote on the official inclusion of the Lely Line in the European network on 18 December. To be continued…
